Britain must strengthen its defense and prepare for a potential armed conflict by 2030, states UK Secretary of State for Defence Wes Streeting in a column for The Telegraph.

According to his assessment, Russia and other potential adversaries could acquire the capability to launch an attack by 2030. In this regard, Britain has just over 1,000 days to prepare, together with its NATO allies, for a possible armed confrontation.

Streeting emphasized that his primary task in office was to prepare the British Army to win in the event of war. He added that strengthening defense had to deter a potential adversary, but the country also had to be ready for direct confrontation if deterrence failed.

He also stated that in the country’s current defense strategy, Russia is identified as a direct threat to national security.

However, the threats are not limited to full-scale war, as Britain may face sabotage, terrorism, and other hybrid hostile actions.

Criticism of predecessors and restoration of the defense industry

Streeting criticized the activities of the previous Conservative government, noting that during their tenure, the size of the British Army was reduced to its lowest level since the Napoleonic Wars.

The British minister called for the immediate restoration of the domestic defense industry and the acceleration of weapons and ammunition production.

As an example of positive progress, he cited a factory in Telford, where the production of artillery barrels from British steel has been resumed after a ten-year break.

The elite German special forces unit KSK is preparing for a potential military confrontation with Russia. To this end, the soldiers have completely overhauled their training program and operational tactics.

German Minister of Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul stated that the Russian president still seeks to restore the USSR. According to him, such intentions pose a threat to a number of countries that must be prepared for a possible Russian invasion.
