UK estimates Russia's military losses since invading Ukraine
UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces Leo Docherty assessed the Russian army losses during the war against Ukraine, reports Sky News.
According to the minister's estimates, 450,000 Russian military personnel were killed or wounded in Ukraine.
Docherty revealed that in addition to the fatalities, tens of thousands of people deserted from the Russian forces since the beginning of the war in February 2022. He adds that this does not include the number of deaths in Russian private military companies, such as the Wagner Group, as he lacks information about these groups.
Regarding weaponry, Docherty said that Russians lost:
- 10,000 armored vehicles, including nearly 3,000 main battle tanks,
- 109 aircraft,
- 136 helicopters,
- 346 unmanned aerial vehicles,
- 23 naval vessels of all classes,
- over 1,500 artillery systems.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also updated data on Russian army losses as of today, April 28. According to military officials, Russia lost over 466,000 military personnel.
