Two Ukrainians in the US have been accused of violating US electoral laws. They were arrested by American police, according to US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.

The head of the US Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, announced that two Ukrainian citizens were arrested for illegally voting in the 2024 elections.

"Under President Donald Trump, if you come to our country and break our laws, you will face the consequences," Noem wrote on the social media platform X.

The Secretary did not provide details of the arrest or specify the exact violations the Ukrainians are accused of. However, she added that the arrests were made in cooperation with the US Government Accountability Office (GAO), which is led by businessman Elon Musk. The office's mission includes auditing government activities and reducing the federal government's size and budgetary costs, leaving it unclear how it is connected to the alleged election violations.

The 2024 US elections

The US held presidential elections on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Voters not only selected a new president but also elected members of the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate.

Donald Trump ran for the Republican Party, while Kamala Harris represented the Democratic Party. Before voting began, polls showed nearly equal chances for both candidates, but Trump ultimately won a decisive victory, becoming the 47th President of the United States.
