The administration of US President Donald Trump was considering terminating contracts with SpaceX after a clash between Trump and Elon Musk, reports The Wall Street Journal.

According to the newspaper's sources, only a few days after Trump raised the issue of severing ties with Musk's business in early June, his administration initiated a review of SpaceX contracts.

According to the interlocutors, the purpose of such an analysis is to identify potential waste in the multibillion-dollar agreements that the company has with the US government.

But Trump administration officials decided that they could not cancel most of the deals because they are critical to the US Department of Defense and NASA.

According to the WSJ, the preliminary assessment confirmed SpaceX's dominance as the world's leading rocket manufacturer and the main provider of satellite Internet.

Trump and Musk's clash

Elon Musk became the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after Donald Trump returned to the presidency. At the end of May, the billionaire returned to business.

Soon after, a loud quarrel arose between Musk and the US president, as the businessman criticized Trump's bill on congressional spending.

In one of his posts on social media, Elon Musk wrote that Trump was in Epstein's files, who is accused of enticing minors into the sex business. However, he later deleted the post.

Musk also wrote on X that he regretted some of his posts about Trump that “went too far.”

Later, after another criticism of Musk, the American president hinted at the possible deportation of the billionaire.
