Newly elected US President Donald Trump will not support the initiatives of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He cannot play second fiddle, explains Advisor to the Head of Ukraine's Presidential Office Mykhailo Podolyak.

According to him, Trump will act solely on the basis of reputational pragmatism. Under this logic, it makes no sense to support Putin's initiatives, as the newly elected US president would then be number two. Trump, in turn, will not do so.

Podolyak added that even if there is support for the initiatives, and the wording is changed in one way or another, they will still be Putin's initiatives. This means that “you will play second fiddle”.

“I can't imagine that at all. Again, given Mr. Trump's biography, and the key accents that he always makes, he will definitely not play second fiddle. Only the first. And that's why the whole initiative from Trump will look completely different from what is being proposed by the subject named Putin,” Podolyak said.

Yesterday, Czech President Petr Pavel said that Trump might try to negotiate with Putin to end the war against Ukraine. But such an agreement, he said, would most likely not be in Ukraine's interests.

Today, the British media published another version of Trump's so-called “peace plan” for Ukraine. It provides for European troops in the buffer zone between Ukraine and Russia.
