The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, warned that if Hamas does not release the hostages in the Gaza Strip by his inauguration on January 20, "hell will break out" in the Middle East, reports CNN.

"It will not be good for Hamas and it will not be good, frankly, for anyone. All hell will break out. I don’t have to say anymore, but that’s what it is," Trump said.

He added that "there should have never been" the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Steve Witkoff, whom Trump appointed as a special envoy to the Middle East during his administration, stated that negotiators are "making a lot of progress" on a deal to release the hostages being held in Gaza.

During a conversation with Trump, Witkoff said he is "really hopeful that by the inaugural, we’ll have some good things to announce on behalf of the president."

He also mentioned that he would return to Doha tomorrow, where the negotiations are taking place.

Hamas invasion of Israel and hostage release

On October 7, 2024, Hamas militants invaded Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, carrying out kidnappings and killings of civilians.

The hostages taken by Hamas included not only Israeli citizens but also foreigners.

Recently, it was reported that Hamas had approved a list of hostages it was willing to exchange in the event of a ceasefire. However, Israel denied any preparations, stating it had not received such lists.
