The administration of US President Donald Trump wants to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine by April 20. And it has directly stated this to its European partners, Bloomberg reports.

According to the media outlet, European officials are working to increase spending on defense and support for Ukraine. These plans will not be announced until after the German parliamentary elections on February 23.

Tomorrow, the leaders of several EU countries are invited to Paris to begin preparing these measures together with French President Emmanuel Macron. Presumably, the summit will also discuss the possibility of sending European troops to Ukraine.

Bloomberg, citing sources among European officials, notes that the Trump administration has explicitly stated that it wants a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter, which this year falls on April 20.

At the same time, some European officials say that the pace of the talks, which will begin next week in Saudi Arabia with the participation of representatives of the United States and Russia, is ambitious but potentially unrealistic.

It is much more realistic to achieve a solution by the end of 2025, one of the interlocutors said. The White House National Security Council did not respond to a request for comment, Bloomberg added.

Earlier, the Financial Times wrote that Trump and Putin want to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter or May 9. However, no one has officially mentioned these deadlines.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that there is no peace plan today because nothing has been agreed upon between Ukraine, the United States, and European partners.

The upcoming talks in Saudi Arabia are an indirect indication that the peace process may accelerate. They may result in a meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin by the end of February.
