US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Arab leaders, assured that he would not allow Israel to annex the West Bank of the Jordan River. This concerns one of the two parts of the unrecognized Palestine, Politico reports.

According to unnamed sources of the publication, Trump was firm on this issue and promised that Israel would not be allowed to seize the West Bank, which is governed by the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas.

Another Politico source noted that despite Trump's promise, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is still far away.

Two other sources added that Trump and his team presented a plan to end the war in the Middle East, including the aforementioned promise to prevent annexation, as well as details such as governance and post-war security.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after the talks, called the meeting "fruitful."

The unrecognized Palestine consists of two parts – the West Bank of the Jordan River and the Gaza Strip, where active fighting is currently taking place.

Israeli operation

Earlier, Israel launched a new stage of its operation against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, aimed at achieving full control over the entire Palestinian enclave.

Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, yesterday, September 23, assured that this operation would continue until all hostages are freed and Hamas is completely destroyed.
