Trump to make English the official language in US – WSJ

American President Donald Trump plans to sign a new executive order, after which the United States will have a single official language, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to the media, President Trump plans to sign an order that, for the first time in the country's history, will make English the official language at the federal level in the US.
This decision is an important step in the country's language policy, as in its nearly 250-year history, the US has never had a national language at the federal level. Although English is the most widely spoken language, the country is home to speakers of hundreds of languages, a result of the multicultural society shaped by large waves of immigration from around the world.
Language policies in different countries
The US is not the first country to legalize a single official language. For instance, in 2023, Moldova enacted a law recognizing Romanian as the state language.
That same year, a law came into force in the country, changing the term "Moldovan" to "Romanian" in the Constitution and other state laws.
It is important to note that establishing a single official language ensures unity in communication, promotes cultural and educational development, and strengthens national sovereignty.
For example, in Ukraine, the Ukrainian language is the official language for government institutions, the judiciary, and educational institutions, emphasizing its significance in public life.
Additionally, last year in Ukraine, discussions arose about excluding Russian and Belarusian from the list of languages eligible for protection in the country.
It is also important to mention that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly used the argument that the majority of Ukraine's population allegedly speaks Russian as a justification for the invasion.
