Any country that introduces a digital tax on US companies will immediately face a 100% tariff on all goods exported to the United States, according to a post by US President Donald Trump on Truth Social.
A 100% tariff will be imposed immediately and will replace any trade agreements with such a country, regardless of whether they have been implemented, signed, or not. The threat also applies to countries that continue to discuss similar measures.
In April 2025, France and Germany discussed introducing a digital tax on US companies as a response to Trump’s tariff policy.
At the time, a representative of the French government stated that the European Commission could introduce such a tax by the end of April — however, this did not happen.
