Hamas militants could face major problems if they use hostages as a "shield," US President Donald Trump made this statement while speaking to journalists.

"We're going to see what happens, because I hear Hamas is trying to use he old 'human shield' deal. And if they do that, they're going to be in big trouble," Trump emphasized.

He clarified that Hamas militants announced a few days ago their plans to use hostages as a "shield."

"And that's something that hasn't been done for a long time. Let me tell you, if they do that, they're in big trouble," the president added.

This refers to the hostages Hamas militants captured during their invasion of Israel in October 2023.

New Israeli offensive

Israel launched an offensive on Gaza — the largest city in the Gaza Strip — on the night of September 16.

According to a representative of the Israel Defense Forces, Israeli troops had been positioned on the outskirts of Gaza for several weeks and began advancing toward the city center overnight.

At the same time, Israel claims that a large portion of Gaza’s population has left the city due to the active fighting.
