The US government believes that the framework for a deal between Ukraine and Russia is beginning to take shape, stated US President Donald Trump.

He recalled that he had very good negotiations with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

"President Putin will tell you that without the United States, he wouldn't be worried but he is worried when the United States is involved. And I have to tell you I've dealt very well with both gentlemen, and I think, we have the confines of a deal. I hope we have the confines of a deal," Trump said.

According to Trump, he is involved in the peace process for two reasons. The first is the killing of thousands of young Ukrainians and Russians "every week." The second is the US spending on a war that "should have never happened if we had a competent president."

Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

Ukraine recently accepted the US proposal for a complete ceasefire with Russia for 30 days. However, this initiative has not been implemented yet due to Moscow's stance.

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin does not want to fully halt fire until Ukraine meets a series of his demands. He has agreed only to stop attacks on energy facilities.

On Monday, March 24, the US will hold separate meetings with Ukrainian and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia, where various ceasefire proposals will be discussed.
