US Senator Chris Murphy, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, sharply criticized the actions of President Donald Trump’s administration amid the conflict with Iran, reports CNN.

Sharp criticism of the war

Commenting on the situation in the Middle East, the senator said that the current actions of the US authorities show a lack of a clear strategy.

He stressed that Washington keeps changing its goals and objectives, making the military campaign chaotic and inconsistent.

“This is the most incompetent, incoherent war America has fought in the last 100 years, and that’s saying a lot. This administration has no idea what they are doing. There is no viable war plan. They change their goals and their aims every single day,” the senator stressed.

Accusations against the US president

During his remarks, Murphy also delivered sharp criticism of the White House. He said the current situation is the result of decisions being made at the highest levels of the US government.

“I have great sympathy for our soldiers and our military leaders, they are being given directions by a senile old man who is losing his mind,” Murphy said.

Possible consequences for the US

According to Senator Murphy, further escalation of the conflict could have serious consequences for the US. He pointed to rising economic risks and security threats.

“Prices are going up, the Strait is closed. Iran still maintains the capability to hit our regional allies … The nuclear program still exists. It has been an unmitigated disaster, and that is one person’s fault, Donald Trump, who changes his mind every single day about what he thinks this war should be about,” Murphy added.

Iran has not yet used one of its most powerful leverage points: the possibility of fully mining the Strait of Hormuz. If carried out, this could trigger serious shocks in the global economy and effectively paralyze oil supplies through this strategically vital route.

The US has redeployed some air defense systems from Europe to the Middle East. This decision comes amid the intensifying military confrontation with Iran and the need to strengthen protection for US facilities and allies in the region.
