Trump signs agreement with tech CEOs, signaling end to AI fears

US President Donald Trump stated that he signed a document on artificial intelligence safety alongside the leaders of major technology companies, according to Reuters.
The agreement was presented following Trump's meeting with technology industry representatives at the White House on September 29.
The document outlines voluntary commitments by companies to enhance oversight of the development and operation of artificial intelligence systems. In particular, companies must cooperate with independent auditors or evaluators who will verify whether AI systems comply with safety standards.
Separately, the companies commit to strengthening internal control mechanisms for their systems. This includes, in particular, measures designed to prevent unauthorized AI access to technical systems or the execution of actions not intended by the developers.
The agreement was signed by Trump and the leaders and representatives of companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Nvidia, and xAI. Among the meeting participants were Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Dario Amodei, Sundar Pichai, Jensen Huang, and other technology industry representatives.
Trump called the document a kind of "Constitution" for the field of artificial intelligence and stated that it serves as a form of protection. At the same time, the US president characterized the agreements as morally binding.
"It's almost like a constitution, in a way. And the biggest people in the world signed that, and I signed it as president. And it really is a form of protection," Trump told journalists.
The American administration is also considering the creation of a special committee of approximately ten people to monitor the safety of AI development. Trump stated that such a body could oversee the entire sector.
The agreement comes amid growing concerns about the risks associated with the development of powerful artificial intelligence systems. At the same time, Trump continues to advocate for the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure, including the construction of new data centers in the US.
According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from September 17 to 20, 73% of respondents stated they are concerned about the insufficient measures taken by technology companies to prevent serious harm from artificial intelligence. Another 55% of those polled believe that AI development should be slowed down.
Shortly before, Donald Trump spoke out against slowing down AI development. He called the threat to humanity from artificial intelligence nonsense.
At the same time, it is worth mentioning Bill Gates's warning. The billionaire recently stated that artificial intelligence could lead to the deaths of billions of people.
