US President Donald Trump stated that Washington is considering reducing its military presence in the Middle East after achieving its goals regarding Iran and eliminating the threat from that country, according to a post by the US president on Truth Social.

US may scale back military efforts

The American administration is open to revising its current strategy in the region. According to Trump, the US is very close to accomplishing its objectives and is evaluating the possibility of reducing the scope of military operations.

He noted that this concerns the possibility of scaling back our massive military effort in the Middle East against the terrorist regime of Iran.

Future of the Strait of Hormuz

The US President also outlined Washington's position regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

In his view, the responsibility for its protection should be taken over by the states of the region that directly use this route.

Trump emphasized that the US does not intend to continue performing this function.

"If asked, we will help these Countries in their Hormuz efforts, but it shouldn’t be necessary once Iran’s threat is eradicated."

US position on Iran

The White House chief added that the key task remains preventing the development of Iran's nuclear potential.

According to him, Washington aims to ensure that Tehran cannot even come close to nuclear capabilities.

The Pentagon is considering the possibility of deploying US ground forces in Iran, while thousands of Marines are already being sent to the region.

The UK government has given the US permission to use military bases on its territory to strike Iranian missile facilities from which attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz are being launched.
