Trump says US Navy destroyed drug-carrying submarine in Caribbean

US President Donald Trump said the US Navy destroyed a submarine in the Caribbean carrying a shipment of drugs. Two crew members were captured alive.
Trump said the Navy struck the submarine while it was en route to the United States via "a well-known narcotrafficking transit route." He added that US intelligence confirmed the vessel was loaded with mostly "fentanyl and other illegal narcotics."
Four people were on board. Two were captured alive, while the other two were killed along with the vessel.
"At least 25,000 Americans would die if I allowed this submarine to come ashore. The two surviving terrorists are being returned to their Countries of origin, Ecuador and Colombia, for detention and prosecution. No US forces were harmed in this strike," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Narco submarines
Drug cartels use homemade or semi-submersible submarines to transport cocaine and other drugs to the United States. Most of these submarines are single-use, and only a few reach US shores. However, even the ones that make it generate huge profits. Cartels have the resources to build these vessels by the dozens.

There is also a theory that cartels build submarines with Russian assistance. In the past, Mexican and US coast guards repeatedly discovered equipment of Soviet or Russian origin on captured submarines. However, official confirmation of Russian specialists' involvement has not been established.
Recently, Trump said as part of his campaign against drug cartels that the US has gained full control over maritime routes. Washington is now considering moving to the next phase of the fight against drug cartels in Venezuela.
