Billionaire Elon Musk cannot take any action without the approval of the US presidential administration, said President Donald Trump, according to CNN.

"Elon can’t do and won’t do anything without our approval. And we’ll give him the approval where appropriate. Where not appropriate, we won’t," Trump emphasized.

The President also addressed rumors suggesting that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Musk, has full access to the government’s payment system. Trump clarified that Musk only has the authority to dismiss individuals deemed "no good" by both Musk and the administration.

"He’s got access only to letting people go that he thinks are no good, if we agree with him, and it’s only if we agree with him. He’s a very talented guy from the standpoint of management and costs, and we put him in charge of seeing what he can do with certain groups, and certain numbers," Trump said.

Trump specified that Musk’s role is to "shrink government", but if there’s a conflict of interest, "we won’t let him go near it."

"He does have a good, natural instinct. He’s got a team of very talented people. We’re trying to shrink government, and he can probably shrink it as well as anybody else," Trump added.

Musk's influence on Trump

Before Donald Trump's inauguration, Democrats claimed that billionaire Elon Musk had a significant influence on him.

Musk reportedly swayed Trump’s opinion on a bipartisan government funding bill proposed by Speaker Mike Johnson.

Following this, Trump stated that Musk could not become President of the United States because he was born in another country.
