US leader Donald Trump told a journalist he was not afraid during the assassination attempt at the Washington Hilton, saying he understands life, according to CBS News.
"I wasn't worried. I understand life. We live in a crazy world," he told the press.
Donald Trump also mentioned the facial expression of First Lady Melania Trump, who, according to him, looked distressed when gunshots and commotion were heard.
"Well, I don't wanna say, and people don't like having it said that they were scared. But certainly, I mean, who wouldn't be when you have a situation like that? By that time, I think she realized ahead of time that that was more of a bullet than it was a tray. And she was (distressed - ed.)," the president added.
He also said that he was curious about what was happening and wanted to see how events would unfold.
"I wanted to see what was happening… I said, "Wait a minute, wait a minute. Let me see. Wait a minute," Trump said, describing his dialogue with security during his evacuation to a safe place.
Shooting at the Washington Hilton
On the night of April 26, an unknown individual broke into the Washington Hilton and opened fire. This happened during a dinner attended by the president, his entourage, and media representatives.
After several gunshots were heard, Trump and other senior US officials were urgently evacuated.
It was later determined that the gunman managed to wound one officer, but his life was saved by a bulletproof vest, and the attacker was quickly detained.
Later, the media reported that the shooter was identified as 31-year-old teacher Cole Tomas Allen from California.
According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the gunman intended to carry out an assassination attempt on Donald Trump and eliminate as many officials from his administration as possible.
