US President Donald Trump said he knows Russian President Vladimir Putin well. He also claims that he alone in the world can stop Putin, according to his interview with Clay Travis, founder of the Outkick sports website.

Trump assured that efforts to contain Russia's war against Ukraine are “somewhat under control.”

“I think it's somewhat under control. I have a good relationship with President Putin and, actually, a good relationship with President Zelenskyy too. It'd be a great thing to be able to stop it. And I will say this, nobody else would have been able to,” the US president said.

He emphasized that he knows Putin “very well.” He also reiterated the thesis that during his first presidency, Putin “didn't invade anything.”

“I don't think there's anybody in the world that going to stop (Putin), except me, and I think I'm going to be able to stop him,” Trump said.

According to him, he and Putin have “very rational discussions”.

“We've had some very rational discussions, and I just want to see the people stop getting killed. They're losing 2,500 young kids a week, and they're Russian and they're Ukrainian,” Trump added.

Trump-Putin call

On March 18, US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin had a phone call. The main topic was Russia's war against Ukraine.

The White House said that Trump and Putin had allegedly agreed to end energy strikes. However, the Russians continue to attack Ukraine. The Russian leader also demanded that Ukraine stop receiving military aid if a ceasefire is established.

Steve Witkoff, the US President's Special Envoy for the Middle East, said recently that Trump and Putin might meet in the coming months.
