The administration of US President Donald Trump believes that to resolve the war in Ukraine, it is necessary to understand the position of all parties. After that, it is possible to work on concessions, US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg says in an interview with Fox News.
“As you develop the plans to end this carnage, you have to make sure that you've got the feel of everybody in play. Once we get to have these face-to-face discussions, then you can really kind of work … on concessions,” Trump's special envoy says.
Kellogg did not comment on what concessions Ukraine could be offered to end the war and whether it was a refusal to join NATO. The US special envoy noted that this is one of the reasons why he will visit Europe next week.
Kellogg is going to attend the Munich Security Conference on February 14-16, where he said he will meet with world leaders to discuss Russia's war against Ukraine. He wants to get a better idea of the position of other countries, including the UK, Germany, Denmark, and other partners of Ukraine, on how to resolve the war.
Trump's peace initiatives
Even before he won the election, Donald Trump claimed that he would end the war in Ukraine in a day. He also said he would bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.
After his inauguration, Trump called on Russia to end the war against Ukraine and threatened tariffs and sanctions if it did not. The US president also said he was ready to meet with Russia's Vladimir Putin to end the war.
The other day, US President Donald Trump said he was interested in Ukrainian rare earth metals and other resources in exchange for arms supplies. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded that Ukraine is open to US proposals.
