As early as this summer, the signature of President Donald Trump will appear on United States paper money. This will be the first time a sitting president signs United States currency, Reuters reports, citing the United States Treasury.

In new banknotes issued for the 250th anniversary of US independence, for the first time in 165 years, there will be no treasurer's signature, although banknotes usually carried signatures of the treasurer and the Secretary of the Treasury. It may take several weeks for new banknotes to reach banks.

First 100-dollar banknotes with signatures of Trump and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will be printed in June, with other denominations to follow in the coming months. It may take several weeks for new banknotes to reach banks.

For now, the US Treasury continues to issue banknotes with the signatures of former secretary under Biden Janet Yellen and Treasurer Lynn Malerba.

Thus, Malerba will become the last among treasurers whose signatures appeared on US federal banknotes since 1861, when the US government first issued them.

Current US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the move is appropriate in connection with the 250th anniversary of the US, given the strong economic growth and financial stability in the US during Trump's second term.

"There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald Trump than US dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial," Bessent said.

Reuters notes that the change of signature is another attempt by the Trump administration and its allies to place the president's name on buildings, institutions, government programs, military ships and coins.

What else is known about the 250th anniversary of the US

Weeks ago, US Treasurer Brandon Beach said the US is making a gold coin with Trump for the 250th anniversary of the country. In particular, the Commission of Fine Arts unanimously approved the design.

It was reported in January that Trump intends to turn celebrations into a large-scale nationwide sports show. Plans include special matches, themed exhibitions, and similar events, with White House potentially serving as a venue.
