In less than two weeks, Donald Trump will officially become the 47th president of the United States. It will happen right after his inauguration.
Trump's inauguration: date and place
Donald Trump's inauguration will take place on January 20, 2025. This day will mark the beginning of his second term as President of the United States. He will be the second president in history to serve two consecutive terms.
The ceremony will take place in front of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., and will begin at about 12:00 p.m. ET (19:00 Kyiv time).
During the ceremony, Trump and his Vice President J.D. Vance will take the oath of office. In addition, the new US president will deliver his inaugural speech.
How the ceremony will look like
The Joint Congressional Committee is responsible for the planning and execution. Traditionally, there will be a procession to the Capitol, followed by the swearing-in of the Vice President, the swearing-in of the President, the inaugural address, the honorable departure (of President Joe Biden), and the inauguration ceremony.
The opening prayer will be delivered by the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
In the past, celebrities such as Lady Gaga have been invited to perform the national anthem before the inauguration. It is not yet known who will be chosen to do so in 2025. As of January 9, the full list of performers has not been published.
Where to watch the inauguration
The inauguration on January 20 will be available to watch live on US news channels, including CNN, ABC, and CBS.
News agencies and other media are expected to broadcast it on their apps and YouTube channels.
Other options include broadcasts on the White House website (White House Live Stream) and on its YouTube and social media channels X.
Who will attend the ceremony
It is known that President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will attend Trump's inauguration. The current president said he would do everything to restore the tradition of a peaceful transfer of power. Four years ago, Donald Trump became the first president in more than 150 years to skip the oath of office for his successor.
Among the world leaders expected to attend are Argentine President Javier Milei and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Other guests include members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, high-ranking military officials, former presidents and vice presidents, and Medal of Honor recipients.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he would like to attend Trump's inauguration. But only if invited to the ceremony.
It was also reported that due to the New Year's Eve terrorist attacks, Washington has increased security measures for several weeks, in particular in connection with the presidential inauguration on January 20.
