US President Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have postponed their planned trip to Moscow, according to Axios.
The US officials are waiting for a clear answer on whether Ukraine and European countries are willing to agree to a new joint proposal for the Kremlin chief. The media outlet did not specify what the proposal entails.
The visit has been postponed until that information becomes available. The decision was made amid the crisis in Ukraine, the media outlet reports.
On October 11, Trump announced an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, but the Kremlin immediately violated it. The White House later explained why the ceasefire had failed.
According to an anonymous White House official, the initial proposal called for a halt to attacks on oil refineries, followed by a broader cessation of strikes on other energy facilities.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha discussed whether negotiations with the United States still make sense following Trump’s statements.
He said Ukraine was ready to seize every opportunity for peace and that this week would be devoted to intensive work with European partners to increase pressure on Russia.
