US President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to nearly its lowest point since he returned to the White House, and the reason lies not with the Democrats, but with his own party, according to Reuters.

According to the poll, 35% of respondents approve of Donald Trump’s performance as president. This is 1% lower than in the previous survey at the beginning of the month.

As Reuters reports, the president’s popularity has suffered this year due to a sharp rise in gasoline prices after Trump ordered strikes against Iran alongside Israel in February.

The war significantly disrupted global oil trade: fuel prices for Americans rose by about 50%.

This has caused concern among Trump’s allies in the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections in November, which will determine control of both chambers of the US Congress.

Declining support among republicans

Dissatisfaction is also spreading within Trump’s party: 21% of Republicans said they currently disapprove of the president’s performance, compared to 5% immediately after he took office in January 2025.

About 79% of Republicans in the poll said Trump is doing a good job, compared to 82% at the beginning of the month and 91% at the start of his term.

Main issue - prices

Republicans are most dissatisfied with how he is handling the cost of living. During the 2024 election campaign, he promised to lower prices, precisely against the backdrop of inflation that plagued former President Joe Biden.

Poll results:

  • Only 47% of Republicans approve of Trump’s handling of the cost of living
  • 46% of Republicans say he is doing a poor job on these issues
  • Among all Americans, only one in five is satisfied with how the president is managing the cost of living.

The survey was conducted online from May 15 to 18. A total of 1,271 adult US residents participated in the study.

Trump rapidly losing popularity

Trump’s approval rating has been gradually declining since he took office in January 2025. At that time, he was supported by 47% of the public.

Another poll showed that US President D’s approval rating has fallen to a record low.

Nearly half of Europeans, specifically 48% of those surveyed, consider the US President an enemy of Europe. The highest levels of antipathy were recorded in Belgium (62%) and France (57%), while the lowest levels were observed in Croatia (37%) and Poland (19%).
