US President Donald Trump said he has the "best plan ever" for ending the conflict with Iran and once again stressed that Tehran must not obtain nuclear weapons, CNN reports.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump sharply criticized Iran’s latest proposal regarding a possible agreement between the two countries.
"I have a plan — you know, it’s a very simple plan, I don’t know why you don’t say it like it is, Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon," Trump said.
According to Trump, Iran’s response was "simply unacceptable." He also described the Iranian proposal as "stupid."
The American President stressed that any potential agreement between Washington and Tehran must include a complete end to Iran’s nuclear program.
"You know, in war, you have to change, you have to be flexible, you have a lot of plans, but you have to do different plans in different days," he said.
At the same time, Trump emphasized that his main demand remains unchanged.
"But I have a great plan — but the plan is they cannot have a nuclear weapon. And they didn’t say that in their letter," he added.
Earlier, Trump had already rejected Iran’s response to a US peace proposal, calling it completely unacceptable.
According to media reports, Tehran sent Washington its own terms for a possible settlement through Pakistan.
Iran demanded an end to military operations on all fronts, the lifting of the US naval blockade, guarantees against further strikes, and the removal of sanctions, including restrictions on oil sales. Trump responded by saying that such a position was unacceptable to him.
