The president instead calculated how much Iran should pay for its devastating wars and the suppression of protests, according to US President Donald Trump's post on X.

Trump demands compensation from Iran

Trump said representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran are demanding compensation for the damage caused to them during the past five months of military conflict.

He recalled that the war against Iran began to ensure that the country would not have nuclear weapons. He also said that compensation was not discussed during talks with the United States.

"But it is an interesting idea because now I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts, for which they are famous," Trump said.

He listed people who were killed by Iranian weapons, including the families of those killed on the USS Cole and thousands of others killed in combat.

Trump also said compensation should be paid to the families of hundreds of thousands of innocent protesters who were killed by Iran over the past 50 years.

"Not to mention the 52,000 that have been killed in the last five months," he said.

"I have instructed my representatives to put this firmly into any, and all, future negotiations," Trump added.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Trump had signaled his willingness to increase economic pressure on Iran instead of ordering another military strike.

It was also reported that Iran said an agreement with Oman was not enough to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, as the United States must meet a number of demands.
