Trump refuses to give interview to 60 Minutes, while Harris agrees - Axios
US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris were invited to give interviews for the CBS News program 60 Minutes. However, the Republican candidate declined the invitation, reports Axios.
On September 10, 2024, Harris and Trump participated in a debate. Following that, the US Vice President repeatedly suggested that the former president hold another round of debates, to which he responded with refusals. Trump claimed it was already too late to hold new debates, making the CBS News show potentially the last opportunity for both candidates to reach a broad audience just 29 days before the election.
The network stated that Trump initially agreed but later declined the interview. In a comment to Axios, Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign communications director, explained the situation.
"There were discussions but nothing was ever scheduled or locked in. They insisted on cutting out of the interview to do fact-checking," he said.
Meanwhile, US Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to participate in the show, which is set to air on October 7. Trump’s invitation remains open.
"This year, both the Harris and Trump campaigns agreed to sit down with 60 Minutes. Vice President Harris will speak with correspondent Bill Whitaker. After initially accepting 60 Minutes' request for an interview with Scott Pelley, former President Trump's campaign has decided not to participate. Pelley will address this Monday evening," added the representative from 60 Minutes.
