US President Donald Trump stated his readiness to meet with Vladimir Putin and provided an approximate timeline for the negotiations, according to CNN.

The White House head suggested that he would meet with Putin shortly after his trip to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates in May.

“It’s possible, but most likely not. I think we’ll meet with him shortly thereafter,” the president said when asked if he would meet with Putin in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has become a venue for talks between Russia and Ukraine, where both countries are discussing a potential ceasefire.

The Middle Eastern tour, scheduled for May 13-16, will be Trump’s second foreign trip during his second term, following his planned visit to Rome this weekend for the funeral of the Pope.

London peace talks on Ukraine

On April 23, negotiations took place in London between delegations from Ukraine, Britain, France, and Germany regarding the war's resolution.

During the meeting, the US proposed a new peace plan under which Washington was prepared to recognize Crimea as part of Russia and lift anti-Russian sanctions. In return, Russia promised to halt all hostilities and freeze the war.

However, President Zelenskyy rejected this scenario.

The president also reminded of the Crimea Declaration - the stance of Trump’s first administration.

Trump condemned Zelenskyy’s position and warned that the war would drag on for a long time, with Ukraine risking the complete loss of its independence.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is heading to Moscow, where he is set to meet with Putin on Friday, April 25.
