US President Donald Trump called the idea of building a tunnel between American and Russian territories interesting during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Tunnel from Russia to Alaska. I've just heard about that. Well, that's interesting. I will have to think about that. I hadn't heard that," Trump said.

He added that a good road was recently built in Alaska, which will provide access to numerous valuable mineral resources.

"We have a good piece of the ownership because, in fact, we made it possible," the US leader stated.

He later asked the Ukrainian President what he thought about such an initiative from Moscow.

"I'm not happy with it," Zelenskyy answered.

Tunnel between Russia and the US

Earlier, Putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev proposed building the so-called Putin–Trump Tunnel to connect the United States and Russia through the Bering Strait.

Dmitriev claimed the tunnel could be completed within eight years at a cost of $8 billion if built using Elon Musk's The Boring Company technology.

According to him, the project would open the way for joint resource development.

Putin's envoy added that in this way, the US and Russia could connect the continents for the first time.
