In the US, President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to the lowest point of his time in office. Americans are increasingly critical of his policies on the cost of living, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Trump’s approval rating among Americans dropped to 40%, compared with 42% in the previous poll conducted from October 15–20.

The share of those who disapprove of the US president’s policies has risen to 57%, up from 52% in the May survey. He receives particularly low marks for managing household expenses - 63% of respondents are dissatisfied with his performance, nearly double the proportion who believe he is handling it well.

The poll also showed that most Americans are relatively unconcerned about a prolonged government shutdown: 29% said they are indifferent or even pleased, 20% are outraged, and about 50% are annoyed. Most respondents noted that the shutdown has had little impact on their lives.

Reuters points out that although Trump’s Republicans hold a majority in Congress, Democrats are blocking funding bills. The main point of contention is the Democrats’ insistence on extending health insurance subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of the year.

Regarding the public’s stance on this key issue, 73% of Americans support continuing the subsidies, despite arguments about increasing the federal budget deficit.

The survey included over 1,000 adult Americans from across the US.

Another poll in August, conducted by Quinnipiac University, also highlighted record figures for Trump’s approval rating. Only 37% of registered voters approved of the president’s performance, while 55% expressed disapproval, and 7% were undecided.
