Trump pushes for Zelenskyy-Putin meeting in Moscow, Bloomberg reports

As the outlet notes, during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the United States sought to revive the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump urged Zelenskyy to meet with Putin in Moscow, but the proposal reportedly sparked outrage on the Ukrainian side, according to Bloomberg. When asked by reporters when he would visit the Russian capital, Zelenskyy replied, "On a missile," adding an expletive.

At the same time, the US side pushed for a ceasefire on attacks against energy infrastructure amid rising global diesel prices. However, neither Ukraine nor Russia agreed to the initiative.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that potential technical peace talks could take place in the United Arab Emirates, although Washington has not yet proposed a specific date.

The issue of strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses ahead of the winter season was also discussed during the talks.

The United States agreed to provide Ukraine with licenses to manufacture Patriot missiles, with production expected to begin no earlier than a year from now.

However, Trump has not yet made a final decision on direct deliveries of air defense systems this winter because of shortages in US weapons stockpiles.

"Production isn’t expected to start for at least a year, so won’t address Ukraine’s more urgent need to protect its critical infrastructure assets against Russian attack over the colder months," the outlet's sources said.

Trump’s initiative emerged amid reports that the United States had invited Putin to attend the G20 summit in Florida in December, a move that drew criticism from European allies.

Context of diplomatic efforts

The United States has been working for some time on a plan to revive negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.

Washington assesses the prospects for a diplomatic settlement cautiously but considers the September meetings between delegations to have been substantive, according to the report.

In addition, the US side has expressed its intention to organize new talks with Russia following consultations with Ukrainian representatives.

The main goal of these contacts is described as finding ways to end the fighting and discussing possible venues for future meetings.
