US President Donald Trump announced the creation of a so-called Peace Council, which, according to him, will oversee postwar governance in the Gaza Strip, according to a post on the Truth Social platform.

“As Steve Witkoff announced, we have officially entered the next phase of Gaza's 20-point peace plan,” he wrote.

According to the US president, the Peace Council will work closely with the newly appointed Palestinian technocratic government — the National Committee for the Governance of Gaza — which is to administer the enclave during the transitional period.

Trump also said that after the ceasefire was put in place, his administration provided the Gaza Strip with record volumes of humanitarian aid.

In his view, this created the necessary conditions for moving to the next stage of the peace process.

Separately, the US president stressed the need for the complete demilitarization of Hamas. According to him, with the support of Egypt, Türkiye, and Qatar, a comprehensive agreement is planned that would include the surrender of all weapons and the dismantling of the group’s tunnel infrastructure.

Trump called on Hamas to fulfill its obligations without delay, including the return of the remaining bodies of the dead to Israel.

“The people of Gaza have suffered long enough. The time is now,” he concluded.

On January 14, the US announced the launch of the second stage of President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip. This stage involves a transition to demilitarization, technocratic governance, and reconstruction. US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff wrote about this on the social media platform X.

Trump’s peace plan for Gaza

In late September, the US presented a 20-point peace plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas. The plan предусматриes an immediate ceasefire by mutual consent, a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops, and the full return of all hostages.

The plan also calls for a freeze on all military operations, amnesty for Hamas members who agree to disarm, and the option of safe departure from Gaza for those who wish to leave.
