Trump plans to appoint staunch anti-vaxxer as Health and Human Services secretary - CNN
US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen his candidate for Health and Human Services secretary, selecting a vocal opponent of vaccination for the role, reports CNN.
According to two sources, President-elect Donald Trump is set to announce that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be the next Health and Human Services secretary. This move, CNN notes, marks yet another provocative choice by the incoming president.
A CNN source reported that Trump has officially offered the position to Kennedy, with an announcement possibly coming as early as today.
Kennedy Jr. is a staunch anti-vaxxer
Since 2005, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been outspoken against public vaccination efforts, gaining significant attention in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. His stance has even caused serious rifts within his own family. In 2021, his sister, Kerry Kennedy, called Robert’s vaccine position very dangerous.
Three other family members published an article in Politico two years earlier, publicly condemning Kennedy Jr.'s views on vaccination. They described his beliefs as tragically wrong and warned they could have deadly consequences.
In 2022, Facebook and Instagram removed the accounts of Children's Health Defense, an organization founded by Kennedy Jr., citing repeated violations of the platforms' medical misinformation policies.
In 2023, Kennedy Jr. controversially claimed that vaccines cause autism and compared their use to the extermination of Jews in Nazi camps.
He also stated at one point that 30% of the global population would die from vaccination.
He has promoted various other conspiracy theories, many related to vaccines.
Trump's team formation
Trump is considering appointing Tulsi Gabbard as the new Director of National Intelligence. Previously, Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation accused Gabbard of spreading anti-Ukrainian propaganda, including claims about biolaboratories in our country.
Additionally, reports indicate that members of Trump’s transition team are compiling a list of military officials slated for dismissal. The list may include members of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.
