US President-elect Donald Trump continues to form his team. He announced that tech investor David Sacks will oversee US policy on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, reports CNN.

Trump announced the appointment of another political appointee, calling Sacks a "czar" tasked with addressing a specific challenge through his social media platform, Truth Social.

"In this important role, David will guide policy for the Administration in Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrency, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness," he wrote.

The newly elected president further emphasized that David Sacks will focus on making America a global leader in both fields. Specifically, he will:

  • Defend free speech online and "steer us away from Big Tech bias and censorship";
  • Work on a legal framework to provide the clarity the crypto industry has requested and enable it to thrive in the US.

Additionally, Sacks will chair the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology.

CNN noted that Trump was once skeptical of cryptocurrency but later embraced it, promising during his presidential campaign to make the US the "crypto capital of the planet."

Notably, on the night of December 5, Bitcoin reached the $100,000 mark for the first time. This new record followed Trump's announcement of his administration’s appointments, which are expected to pave the way for a pro-crypto policy when the Republican takes office in January.
