US President Donald Trump has dismissed the head of the National Archives, Colleen Shogan, who was involved in his criminal case. It remains unclear who will replace her, according to NBC News.

According to the publication, White House Director of Presidential Personnel Sergio Gor announced the decision on social media platform X on Friday. He stated that the national archivist was dismissed at Trump's direction.

"At the direction of @realDonaldTrump the Archivist of the United States has been dismissed tonight. We thank Colleen Shogan for her service," Gor wrote.

NBC added that by firing Shogan, Trump fulfilled his January promise to overhaul the leadership of the agency involved in his criminal case. The case concerns allegations that Trump mishandled classified documents.

Gor did not specify who would replace Shogan as archivist. A post on a LinkedIn account believed to belong to Colleen Shogan confirmed her dismissal.

"This evening, President Trump fired me. No cause or reason was cited. It has been an honor serving as the 11th Archivist of the United States. I have zero regrets - I absolutely did my best every day for the National Archives and the American people," the post stated.
