Trump on peace deal between Ukraine and Russia: 'It's going to happen'

US President Donald Trump stated that the United States has made "tremendous progress" in negotiations with Moscow and Kyiv over the past week, and a peace deal may soon be reached, according to the New York Post.
"I think it’s going to happen," Trump said regarding a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
The US president confirmed that negotiations are currently underway with both sides.
"I think we’ve made tremendous progress in the last week. We’re dealing with the Russians. We’re dealing with the Ukrainians. I think there’s going to be something," he told Fox News.
A US delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance and Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
The Munich Security Conference will take place from February 14 to 16.
During his campaign, Trump repeatedly claimed that he would end Russia's war against Ukraine "within 24 hours" — but only after his inauguration. On February 20, he joked that only half a day had passed.
Trump also insists that if he had been president, Russia would not have launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He argues that his leadership was strong, while Joe Biden’s was weak.
Recently, Washington and Moscow have presented conflicting narratives on the prospects for peace talks.
Trump claimed that he had been in contact with Vladimir Putin and believes the US is making progress in negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Following Trump’s remarks, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters that relations with Washington are "on the brink of collapse," insisting that Ukraine must abandon its NATO membership bid and withdraw from territories occupied by Russian forces.
