Trump officially picks Kristi Noem for homeland security secretary
Donald Trump, the winner of the US presidential election, announced that he had selected South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as the new Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security under his administration. This appointment had been reported by Western media outlets the day before, according to CNN and ABC News.
Trump said Noem had been "very strong on Border Security."
“She was the first Governor to send National Guard Soldiers to help Texas fight the Biden Border Crisis, and they were sent a total of eight times,” he explained his choice.
What preceded Noem’s appointment
Earlier on Tuesday, CNN first reported on the possible appointment of Kristi Noem. Some Republicans expressed concerns at the time, but sources told American media that this did not alter Trump’s decision.
It is also worth noting that Noem’s appointment still requires approval from the US Senate.
Previously, RBC-Ukraine pointed out that Kristi Noem had opposed US assistance to Ukraine in the context of her potential appointment as the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Personnel appointments in Trump’s team
As a reminder, Donald Trump made several announcements overnight regarding the selection of his future administration's team. For example, Trump nominated Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and veteran, as the new Secretary of Defense.
Trump also named former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe to lead the CIA.
Additionally, Trump appointed Elon Musk as head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency.
Earlier, Trump appointed Republican Representative Mike Waltz as his National Security Advisor.
