Trump nominates his lawyers for positions of Deputy Attorney General of US and his assistant
Donald Trump has decided who will serve as Deputy Attorney General and who will be his assistant. They will be the lawyers directly chosen by the president-elect of the US, reports CNN.
On Thursday, Trump announced that Todd Blanche, who represented him in several criminal cases, has been nominated for the position of Deputy Attorney General of the US. CNN notes that this is the second most important position in the US Department of Justice.
"I am pleased to announce that Todd Blanche will serve as Deputy Attorney General in my Administration," Trump said.
Now, following the official nomination of Blanche for the Deputy Attorney General position, his candidacy will need to be confirmed by the Senate.
CNN added that the Deputy Attorney General of the Department of Justice is responsible for overseeing the department's daily operations, as well as advising the Attorney General on political priorities and other matters.
What is Blanche known for
Todd Blanche played a key role in Trump's defense teams, both in the case involving hush money paid to a porn star to silence her about their affair, which ended with a guilty verdict earlier this year, and in the federal prosecution over classified documents, which was dropped this summer. Blanche was also involved in the federal case related to January 6.
Blanche worked for several years as a federal prosecutor before transitioning to private practice nearly a decade ago. When Todd took on Trump as a client last year, he left the prestigious New York law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, where he had been a partner.
Another Trump's choice
In addition to the initial announcement of his nominee for the Justice Department, Trump added that he has chosen Emil Bove as the chief assistant to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.
According to CNN, Bove was the head of the National Security Division in the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
Who will be on Trump's team
According to CNN sources, Donald Trump has chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the position of US Health and Human Services secretary. He is known for being a staunch opponent of vaccination.
Earlier, it was reported that Trump intends to appoint Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, she has spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda, including making claims about biolabs in Ukraine.
