US President Donald Trump has appointed Katie Zacharia as the new White House press secretary. She will replace Karoline Leavitt, who left the position in August after the birth of her second child, reports The New York Times.

Zacharia, 41, currently serves as a communications adviser at Trump Media and Technology Group, which operates the president's social media platform, Truth Social.

She previously worked briefly as press secretary to then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem at the Department of Homeland Security and was a frequent guest on conservative media outlets, including Fox News and Newsmax.

Trump noted that Zacharia had also worked on his election campaigns, helping him win key battleground states where election outcomes are unpredictable.

"She has an unblemished record of support, and has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning," Trump wrote on Truth Social, where Zacharia has worked since June, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Zacharia, in turn, wrote on her social media accounts that Leavitt had set "high standards" and that she wanted to continue delivering significant results for the country and informing the American people about the "major victories this administration achieves every day."

Katie Zacharia, an attorney who earned her bachelor's degree and law degree from Pepperdine University, lives in California and, judging by her social media posts, has four children.

She has also regularly participated in activities supporting conservative causes.

According to her online résumé, before joining the Trump administration, she served as general counsel at Fix California, a nonprofit organization founded by Trump's ally Ric Grenell to promote a conservative agenda in the state, as well as at White Rose Resistance, a group that opposes abortion.

More than a decade ago, she also worked in Beijing for several years and claims to have a basic proficiency in Chinese.

In August, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who had just returned to work after maternity leave following the birth of her second child, decided to step down.
