Elected US President Donald Trump plans to declare a national emergency at the US-Mexico border after his inauguration. He has prepared measures against both legal and illegal immigration, Reuters reports.

An unnamed future member of Trump’s administration told the news agency that the elected president plans to declare illegal immigration at the US-Mexico border a state of emergency. This decision will support the construction of the border wall and the deployment of additional troops to the border.

The source told Reuters that on January 20, Trump intends to sign 10 executive orders and measures to strengthen border security and increase deportations.

According to the official, the future US president will also issue an order canceling the right to citizenship by birth for children born in the US to parents without legal immigration status.

Trump also plans to suspend the refugee resettlement program in the US for at least four months.

The future administration member added that the 47th president plans to add criminal cartels to the list of foreign terrorist organizations.

Trump and illegal immigration

During his election campaign, Trump strongly opposed illegal immigration and promised to organize a large-scale deportation of illegal immigrants.

On January 19, Trump promised that Americans would "witness the largest deportation exercise in American history."

He pledged to quickly close border crossings to illegal migrants.
