US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order guaranteeing Qatar’s security, pledging diplomatic, economic, and military support to the ally following a recent Israeli airstrike on Doha, according to Trump’s decree published on the White House website.

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order obligating the United States to defend Qatar in the event of an attack. The document, published on the official White House website, comes amid growing tensions in the Middle East and a recent Israeli airstrike on Qatar’s capital, Doha.

According to the order, any armed assault on Qatar’s territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure will be treated by the US as a threat to its own national security.

"In the event of such an attack, the United States shall take all lawful and appropriate measures, including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military, to defend the interests of the United States and of the State of Qatar and to restore peace and stability," the document states.

Talks with Emir and Qatar's reaction

The White House confirmed that on October 1, Donald Trump held a phone call with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. While no details were disclosed, Qatari officials said the discussion focused on Doha’s mediation efforts toward establishing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decree, calling it "an important step in strengthening the defense partnership between the two nations." The government emphasized that Washington’s decision would deepen cooperation in the areas of security and diplomacy.

Israeli airstrike on Doha

The decree follows rising regional tensions. In early September, Israel conducted an airstrike on Doha. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, the strike, reportedly coordinated with Shin Bet, targeted senior Hamas leadership. Although the official Israeli statement did not explicitly mention a strike on Qatar, reports of explosions in Doha sparked international outcry.

Strategic US ally

Qatar holds critical importance for US military presence in the region. The Al Udeid Air Base hosts the forward headquarters of US Central Command, one of the largest American installations outside the United States.

Analysts note that the new executive order effectively places Qatar’s security on par with US strategic interests, a move that could reshape the balance of power in the Middle East and provoke a sharp reaction from Israel.
