Trump makes dramatic turn on Ukraine — FT

Close advisers to the Ukrainian President told the FT that Zelenskyy had always considered face-to-face communication with Trump to be the most effective way to persuade him. And this meeting was no exception.

It was immediately after this meeting that it became known that the US President had, for the first time, instructed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to visit Kyiv.

In the Ukrainian capital, they will continue their efforts to bring the war unleashed by Russia to a swift conclusion.

Journalists emphasize that this decision is yet another strong indication of a sharp turnaround in relations between Kyiv and Washington.

Anonymous sources report that, in private conversations, Zelenskyy speaks highly of the months-long direct contacts at the advisor level. He believes that these contacts were instrumental in changing Trump’s view of the war and Ukraine’s prospects.

During recent talks, the Ukrainian President sought to convince his American counterpart that supporting Kyiv is in the US national interest.

Above all, Zelenskyy appealed to Trump’s desire to be associated with successful political decisions. This argument, in particular, has proven especially persuasive in recent months.

It also became clear that Trump has begun to take a more critical view of Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to compromise, while at the same time taking a more favorable view of Ukraine’s military successes.

Despite this, some of his supporters from the America First camp remain skeptical about long-term support for Kyiv.

It also came to light why Laura Loomer, the US President’s favorite blogger, abruptly switched sides to support Ukraine.
