Donald Trump Jr. will travel to Greenland today. The unexpected visit comes just weeks after his father, elected US President Donald Trump, revived the idea of purchasing the island from Denmark, reports Bloomberg.

Greenland’s Foreign Minister, Mininnguaq Kleist, told Bloomberg News that the delegation arrived on Monday in the capital, Nuuk. Trump Jr. is expected to arrive today, Tuesday, January 7.

Kleist also mentioned that the visit is "private," and Trump does not plan any official meetings. Bloomberg reports that Trump Jr. has no official role in his father's upcoming administration.

However, the elected US President used his son's trip to target Greenland again, referencing his long-standing desire to bring the island under US control. Specifically, he posted again on social media:

"Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if and when it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World," Trump wrote.

The surprise visit by Trump Jr. to Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, coincided with the postponement of a scheduled meeting between Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Egede and Danish King Frederik X.

According to Greenland's Foreign Minister, canceling the meeting with the King and Trump Jr.'s visit is a "pure coincidence."

As a reminder, Danish King Frederik X changed the royal coat of arms, making Greenland and the Faroe Islands more prominent. According to The Guardian, the new design reflects an intention to maintain control over territories that US-elected President Donald Trump has expressed interest in having the United States purchase. Specifically, this concerns Greenland.
