US President Donald Trump indicated that Washington has plans to strike one or two targets in Iran. He claimed that the US could carry out the operation in ten minutes, according to Rapid Response 47 on Twitter (X).
During his conversation with the press, Trump asked whether there was a timeline for the negotiations mediated by Qatar. He was referring to the resumption of dialogue between the US and Iran to prevent a renewal of strikes.
In response, the White House chief said that Washington was in no hurry and once again listed what the US had destroyed:
-
Iran's navy;
-
Its air force;
-
Its air defense systems;
-
Virtually all of its military equipment and manufacturing capabilities;
-
Its nuclear program and nuclear capabilities.
"We still have to take care of, I would say, one or two sites, but we can do that in ten minutes. You probably could look at Pickaxe Mountain, and you have to take care of that. We can do that all very quickly," Trump said.
Media outlets note that Trump was likely referring to a suspected nuclear facility beneath Mount Kolang Gaz La (the two names refer to the same mountain).
The White House chief also reiterated that Iran would never have nuclear weapons, adding that Tehran agrees to a deal during negotiations and then backs out of it.
Threat of renewed conflict in the Middle East
According to Axios, the US and Israel have prepared a plan for large-scale strikes on Iran. Sources say that the targets could include the country's leadership, energy and nuclear facilities, as well as its infrastructure.
Media reports also say that Trump held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. There are also reports that Trump could lean toward launching a military campaign if Republicans lose the November 3 congressional midterm elections.
Against this backdrop, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered the military command to prepare for a possible resumption of active hostilities with the US and Israel.
