Trump: Gaza ceasefire could happen as soon as next week

US President Donald Trump does not rule out a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as early as next week, according to the leader’s press conference at the White House.
US President Donald Trump suggested that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip could be reached as early as next week.
Trump described the current situation in the enclave as dire. He noted that the United States is sending significant amounts of aid and food to the region, emphasizing the importance of doing so, as civilians are dying.
Israel-Hamas war
The war in the Gaza Strip has been ongoing since October 2023, when militants from the Palestinian group Hamas invaded Israel, killing and kidnapping hundreds of Israelis and foreign nationals.
In January 2025, Israel and Hamas reached a cease-fire agreement and began a series of hostage exchanges. Several rounds of exchanges took place over the following three months, but by mid-March, the process stalled as militants delayed further swaps, prompting Israeli forces to resume large-scale combat operations.
In May, Israel launched a major military campaign dubbed Gideon’s Chariot, during which the air force has been striking Hamas infrastructure and positions. The operation aims to establish full Israeli control over the enclave.
The ongoing fighting has caused widespread destruction in Gaza and resulted in tens of thousands of deaths. On June 18 alone, dozens of civilians were reported killed by Israeli airstrikes and shelling.
Meanwhile, Israeli media report that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed on a five-point plan to resolve the crisis in the region. Under this plan, the war in Gaza is expected to end within the next two weeks.
