At least dozens of people have been killed in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours due to new Israeli airstrikes and shelling. Some of the victims were civilians waiting for humanitarian aid, according to The Guardian.

On Wednesday, at least 30 people were killed in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks.

The reports say the dead include residents of the Maghazi refugee camp and the Zeitoun neighborhood in the central and northern parts of the enclave.

Airstrikes on residential buildings killed at least 14 people in those areas. Another five were killed in a displaced persons camp in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

Separately, it was reported that 11 people were killed by Israeli fire while gathering near UN humanitarian aid trucks along Salahuddin Road in central Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated it had launched an investigation into reports of civilian casualties among those waiting for food.

At the same time, the military emphasized that its operations are solely aimed at dismantling Hamas's military capabilities and "feasible precautions to mitigate civilian harm."

These incidents are the latest in a series of deadly attacks that have continued since Israel partially lifted its blockade of Gaza.

The restrictions, introduced nearly three months ago, remain partially in place despite the worsening humanitarian situation.

Israel–Hamas negotiations

In January, ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration as US President, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement and agreed on a hostage release.

However, when Hamas began to stall the exchange process, Israel blocked humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza, and on March 18, resumed military operations in the Strip.

It later became known that some restrictions had been lifted, and aid deliveries to the region resumed.

On May 29, the White House announced that Israel had agreed to a peace plan proposed by Steve Witkoff. The final decision now depends on Hamas.

Initially, Israel had rejected the proposed version of the peace deal.
