President of the United States Donald Trump believes that Europe's focus should be on Russia's war against Ukraine, rather than on Greenland, the American leader made this statement in an interview with NBC News.

Trump criticized European leaders who oppose the US joining Greenland. According to him, the island is necessary for the US to "safeguard national security against outside threats."

"Europe ought to focus on the war with Russia and Ukraine because, frankly, you see what that’s gotten them. That’s what Europe should focus on — not Greenland," the president said.

He assured that he would impose tariffs on European countries if a deal regarding Greenland is not reached.

The US leader also declined to comment on whether he might use force to seize Greenland.

Separately, Trump dismissed the idea that Norway has no influence over the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize and that the decision is entirely up to the committee.

"Norway totally controls it, despite what they say. They like to say they have nothing to do with it, but they have everything thing to do with it," the president stated.

Trump wants to 'acquire' Greenland

US President Donald Trump wants Greenland to become part of the US. According to him, this is his way of "protecting" the island from Russia and China.

At the same time, European countries oppose the idea, and Greenland itself does not want to become part of the US.

In response, the US leader promised to impose tariffs on a number of European countries starting February 1, until they agree to a deal regarding Greenland.
