US President Donald Trump said he considers the Strait of Hormuz to be US territory. Trump said during a campaign rally that Washington has control over the entire region.

"We went down, and we stopped them; they will never have a nuclear weapon. They want to make a deal so badly, we don’t even know if we want [a deal] because I view the Strait of Hormuz as an American territory right now, it’s an American territory," Trump said.

Several hours before the speech, he spoke with reporters after getting off his plane. During the exchange, Trump said the US "completely" controls the entire region associated with the Strait of Hormuz.

He also said Iran would "love" to make a deal but believes Tehran is not ready to make the "right deal." The US president emphasized that he only makes deals that are beneficial to the United States.

Returning to the rally, Trump said one of his biggest problems was knowing whom to deal with in Iran. He claimed that no one in Iran wants to be president.

It is also important to note that reporters asked Trump about Washington shifting toward economic warfare against Iran. Given this approach, the press asked whether this meant that the US military's capabilities were limited.

"No, not at all," the US president replied briefly.

What happened before

Recently, US President Donald Trump said he planned to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory in the near future. However, his comments were mocked in Iran, where officials stressed that control over the strait cannot be established through a social media post.

We also reported that the US announced plans for very tough economic restrictions against Iran. According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, details are expected to be announced on August 24.
