US Vice President JD Vance stated during an episode of the Pod Force One podcast that US President Donald Trump is capable of helping Ukraine and Russia move toward ending the war, but he cannot force either side to do so.

According to Vance, Ukraine and Russia have reached a "point of diminishing returns" in the context of the war. In particular, the territory captured by the Russians is very minor, while Russia is losing a large number of soldiers. At the same time, Ukrainians "are suffering from a lot of problems," including with their energy infrastructure.

"We really do believe we've reached the point where it is in both Russia's and Ukraine's interests to stop fighting. But the president (Trump – ed.) can only open the door. He can't actually force either side to walk through it," the US Vice President added.

Vance also shared that he previously believed Russia’s war against Ukraine would last another 15 years, similar to the case of Vietnam.

Trump’s pressure

US President Donald Trump has already made several attempts to pressure Ukraine, even though Ukrainian officials have repeatedly expressed readiness for peace.

In particular, the American leader suspended all military aid to Ukraine after he had a quarrel with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

After the dispute, the US president also accused his Ukrainian counterpart of allegedly not wanting peace.

At the same time, after several months of threats, Trump imposed sanctions against Russia. The restrictions targeted Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as their subsidiaries.

Yesterday, on October 28, Reuters reported that Indian oil refineries began halting purchases of Russian oil due to US sanctions.
