US President Donald Trump accused top BBC executives of attempting to influence the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, according to a post by the White House leader on Truth Social.
Trump specifically singled out BBC CEO Tim Davie, who is stepping down, and news director Deborah Turness, also accusing them of corruption.
“The top people in the BBC, including Tim Davie, the boss, are all quitting/dired, because they were caught “doctoring” my very good (Perfect!) speech of January 6th. Thank you to The Telegraph for exposing these corrupt “journalists.” These are very dishonest people who tried to step on the scales of a presidential election,” the US president wrote.
He also added that, moreover, the BBC leadership in question represents a country widely regarded as the US’s top ally (the BBC is a British company).
“What a terrible thing for democracy!” the White House chief said.
BBC scandal over Trump
The day before, BBC CEO Tim Davie and news director Deborah Turness resigned over the controversy surrounding the alleged manipulation of US President Donald Trump’s speech.
This followed an investigation by The Telegraph, which reported that the BBC’s Panorama documentary misled viewers by editing the president’s speech.
According to internal memos, the BBC had spliced together two parts of Trump’s speech to create the impression that he was openly encouraging and calling for the storming of the US Capitol in 2021.
